10:44:00 - Arthur Miller's "The Crucible"

Arthur Miller's "The Crucible"

"The little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom and common vengeance writes the law!"
The play takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 and is a powerful account of the events surrounding the Salem Witch Trials a time when paranoia, hysteria, and deceit gripped the Puritan towns of New England.
The production will run from Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th January 2010 at the Drama Studio Glossop Road more information on the production.

A stunning version of the classic play with a fabulous cast directed by Ed Bancroft. Tickets on sale now

10:44:00 - The man with the Purple 'tashe

Purple 'tashe
Purple 'tashe

As you may know I have been growing a moustache this month to raise money for The Prostate Cancer Charity via Movember it has been a very itchy experience. Today is the last day, but I have dyed mine purple and keeping it on until the end of the week to get just a little bit more money.
This is my last ditch attempt to squeeze a few more pounds from you lot.
You can see the development of my 'tashe over the whole month: on flickr

please donate to me

15:37:00 - Movember

First Movember shot
First Movember shot

This is the standard Movember blerb:

I am growing a moustache this year for Movember. I have decided to put down my razor for one month (November) and help raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.
What many people don’t appreciate is that one man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK, more than 35,000 men will be diagnosed this year and that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved and I am hoping that you will support me.
To donate to my Mo, you can either:
Movember is now in its third year here in the UK and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Charity. Check out further details at: http://uk.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

You can follow the progress of my Mo online. Also, http://uk.movember.com has heaps of useful information.

Thank you

But you don't need that any more than you do when someone posts about race for life or bungee jumping for the RNLI, if this is your sort of cause or you just want to support me looking stupid, please donate.

For the two of you that don't read XKCD this graph almost describes one of [info]pharrap or [info]bonedancer's movie nights except the "so-bad-it's-good" data point is no where near far enough up the Y axis.

14:56:00 - REVIEW - Glengarry Glen Ross

It’s an inspired decision by director Tony Kennick to include female actors in the traditionally all male cast - The Star.

We hadn't spotted the reviewer turning up, but boy am I glad that he did, congratulations to everyone. Even the poor buggers that didn't get mentioned, everybody contributed to a great show.
Now you know it is good, when are you turning up?

14:16:00 - Whitby April '10

We have been told that they won't announce the date for next year until this coming October event.
We have been told that we shouldn't assume when the dates are as they will probably be not the ones we expect.
But now we are being told this on the official WGW website:

WGW 2010 Dates
Apologies for sending this kind of email to you all, but an important development in the Whitby Gothic Weekend has taken place and we felt you may like to know. Also since many of you may have mailing lists of your own, or club websites. Myspace or facebook pages etc, then we would ask that you help to spread the word through those. The Whitby Gothic Weekend is one of Europes longest running festivals and as such we feel that we should, as a community, do what we can to help save it. Even if you don’t sign, please help us to spread the word to allow others to make up their mind. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/whitbydates/

With the first paragraph of that petition being:
We the undersigned, petition the company, Whitby Festival Traders to restore the booking of the Leisure Centre during the April 2010 Whitby Gothic Weekend (specifically the 23rd, 24th and 25th April) into the rightful hands of Top Mum Promotions.

Hmmmm.

17:37:00 - Steel City Beer Festival

As a number of you have asked I can't have told you all I am not working the beer festival this year. With no spare holiday due to '1 goes mad in Dorset', play rehearsals and a wedding I can only make it Friday night. Since I have never been to Steel City as a punter I thought I would go for a few jars in the evening and chill with my friends. As I understand it a number of people are going to other sessions if you can't make it Friday and want some company.

A B C

Glengarry Glen Ross

Written by David Mamet - Directed by Tony Kennick

14th to 17th October at the University Drama Studio doors open at 7pm for a prompt 7.30pm start.

Lies, flattery, threats, intimidation, four desperate estate agents will do anything to sell. Mamet's Pulitzer Prize winning play is edgy, exhilarating and blackly comic as the characters plot, plead, and betray each other in a paradigm of the energy and cruelty of capitalism in action. Contains very strong language throughout.
